first Kiskassa Easter

– we were one of three locations chosen to hide eggs for the easter Sunday egghunt. Baggy eyed youngish parents turned up at 6am – straight from the easter dance that happened to go on a bit – to hide hundreds of painted eggs. The search party of about 30 kids arrived after 10. Parents, our guests from Manchester and us, merrily sipped wine and gave moral and often illegal other support to the toddlers, who sweetly went about in the deep grass, sunshine in their eyes, little baskets on their arms, containing one or two eggs as opposed to the nifty older ones’ few dozens.
Next day was “locsolás”, small and big boys go into the houses with small and big girls and spray perfume on those that allow it… they get easter eggs, chocolates, cakes, money and drinks in exchange, depending on age and luck. No doubt, a pagan ritual has been tamed for our times.
Meanwhile in Boly – a small town 8 miles away,
has the big cellar-opening day – you purchase a wineglass for 1200 forints
and you get free taste of wine in it from the hundreds of wine-cellars in the cellar quarter of town, on the way to Mohács… we missed out on that this year… (Éva)
