Sothern Serbia

We are trundling along nicely, yesterday we stopped in Vukovar in Croatia and after panicky non-parking in bigger than expected Novi Sad, in Serbia, we stayed at a last minute, before too tired and too late place next to a Main road but it turned out alright - cheap and cheerful, surprisingly quiet, and Alan enjoyed a giant scevapcica meal. Drew - Serbia is an extreme meat eating country. We found the more comfortable motorway and about 3pm we stopped for a leisurely afternoon about 70km from the Macedonian boarder, a **** looking place in a beautiful valley covered with wooded hills. Had a nice walk about, then lazing about, then very good evening meal, I had chicken soup with lots of chicken followed by a very nice roast veal, Alan had a giant Serbian style roast of mixed mince - delish. And a ginormous cabbage salad each. Afterwards - just because we wanted to know what it was - a tolumba - same as a jalabi with a lemon flavouring. A perfect meal. Forgot to mention my red mulled vine, one of the best I've ever had, not very sweet, yet very drinkable, We might make it to Thessaloniki tomorrow - but more likely the day after, where we are so looking forward to see long lost and found friend Jenny and her Kostas we have only met on Skype a few days ago. All very exciting and very enjoyable, even Alan's tummy seems up to the challenge (so far,,,) Photo shows one of the old jeeps we've seen on our walk today, the church on the hill, view from the hotel and the little shop managed by a Frank.
