Ecofarmer

re-settled in Hungary from Rochdale, Lancs, England, and into a little village, doing a bit of greenish farming hoping for a quiet life... but stuff just happens...

a week of lost guests

yes, two times three and one times four one-nighters failed to turn up without any warning - so we sat up waiting and worrying - only one lot let us know that they were all right and apologised... well, never mind, one couple made it from Poland, at 1:30 am...
There was less bedding to wash... the annual village festival went well; the local council handed out the organising to the ethnic minority council (german) who organised - a Bellydancing Festival!!

So seven Bellydancing groups descended on Kiskassa from all over the Baranya county, they paraded through the village in their beautiful jingling and jangling bellydancing outfits. The music chosen was usually less of the traditional and more of the up-to-date arabian pop, which was good and lively. One group even blended Goth into their program, and there were plenty of gypsy contributions to the dance and to the participants and the spectators, a thoroughly friendly and open-hearted affair.
There was even a store selling hookahs and other eastern wears,
tea-tasting and lovely carpets/cushions, very well received by the locals.

Before all that there was the usual craft activities for the kids, henna tattooing and face-painting and the communal, very nice lunch, (as Jozsi the chef, of the biblical beard, is ill - and they moved to Pecs) - the meal was delivered by a caterer this time - very nice, 3 course treat.

now we are back to the middle of sweetcorn eating - I just can't have enough, I love it so... carrots processing, aubergines and of course, tomato season. They were under the weather - needed some spraying, against our principals, but they were dying - and now they are definitely feeling better...

same blog rest of pics

a welcome coldfront arrived, temperature dropped to 25C!
Back to the 30s tomorrow... Alan had to replace the tap we bought 3 years ago for tons of money - rusted through... anyway, in the course of turning the water off he rescued a toad...
the foody photo has all home produce except for the Guardian crossword and the Galactica... two postings as can put on no more than 5 pics at a time. Have a look at the previous new lot!

just pictues 2 posts!! look back one, too!

10 pictures not much text just to point out, that we were overflown with gorgeous greenbeans this year - and Alan did tons of processing as well as Marc. We collected more foodaid from the EU - compulsory, so who are we to guiltily complain that we shouldn't really be targetted... especially as this time the large stock included a dozen packs of matzo (aka paszka or macesz) which is rare to find in shops and very expensive. I was the only one who identified it and was pleased with it in the village - probably giving away my ethnic origines - maybe a mistake these days... so anyways I hope the pictures speak for themselves...

post-birthday

The meal did happen in the Aranykacsa a few days later, and it was up to expectation, see picture(s). Meanwhile I've been to Budapest, got back home with Martin, who's bee doing wwoofing stuff (hay cutting, cutting weeds under electric fence, hunting for cucumbers and tomatoes in poly-tunnel jungle, digging up onions, etc) as well as doing astro work quite a few hours a day. We were yesterday at the Magyarboly "village-day" curtesy of liftd from Mustafa. It was the usual "culture program" as well as a concert of "Surfing Parrots" the Dodi's current band. It was a long afternoon, the weather was lovely, maybe we haven't realised the strength of the sunshine... As for the surf-rock - it is very good and professional, but, well, not our favourite kind of stuff... Oh, forgot, there was also a horse-cart competiton, too, which was quite surprisingly entertaining; I forgot what it's called in English, what the Duke of Edinburgh used to do, complete with the hats and suits and being very proper, even in Magyarboly. Took with us our nice Scottish hostelguest, he enjoyed it, too, all seemed to have a copious amount of beer, though...
Meanwhile more hay was "made", and carrots, onions, parsley and a few other things (it's all a blur this afternoon) processed.
Martin brought tons of reading matter, as he is starting to shift his things from the Tenerife flat in anticipation of the moving out in September. So I opted for not going to Ujpetre this Sunday afternoon, I didn't feel up to the table tennis somehow, it was optimal blogging and reading-on-the-verandah-while-eating-biscuits time... sorry about the sunflower picture being sideways, I don't know how to correct it at this point, and I am ready for the relaxing bit now... maybe next time I'll straighten them up, they like being horizontal, anyways...
